Spike Lee, Barbara Kopple and NBA star Steve Nash have signed on for ESPN Films' "30 for 30" initiative, which will see 30 filmmakers make hourlong films on a subject from the past three decades in sports.

Also coming on board are Mike Tollin and the duo of Alfred Spelman and Billy Corbin.

Lee, who also directed "Game Day With Kobe" for ESPN Films' fall/winter 2008 slate, and Nash were on hand Thursday at the network's session during the Television Critics Assn. press tour at the Beverly Hilton.

The subject of Lee's and Kopple's "30 for 30" projects have yet to be determined.

Nash will make his directorial debut telling the story of the late Canadian athlete Terry Fox, a cancer survivor who lost a leg to the disease and is known for running his country's Marathon of Hope with a prosthetic leg.

Spelman and Corbin are planning to focus on the University of Miami football team in "The U," while Tollin's film will examine the demise of the United States Football League.

In addition, ESPN Films said it has added "Greatest Game Ever Played" to its fall/winter slate. "Game" will recount the Dec. 28, 1958, game played between the Baltimore Colts and the New York Giants at Yankee Stadium for the NFL championship, in which Johnny Unitas led the Colts to an overtime victory.
