Peter Berg taking on ‘Hercules’

“Hancock” director Peter Berg is set to produce and direct a fresh take on the legendary hero Hercules for Universal.
Variety reports Berg will develop the new film - titled "Hercules: The Thracian Wars." The film is scheduled to be a co-production of Spyglass Entertainment, Berg’s Film 44 and Radical Pictures. Spyglass and Universal are tapped to co-finance the adventure film.
Ryan Condal has been hired to write a screenplay based on the five-issue comic series from Steve Moore. The comic hit store shelves in May and was released through Radical Publishing.
The film is produced by Spyglass’ Jonathan Glickman, Roger Birnbaum and Gary Barber with Berg and Sarah Aubrey. Barry Levine will handle producing duties for Radical, and Jesse Berger is lined up for executive producing chores.
Berg has also been attached to direct and produce a new take on the classic Frank Herbert sci-fi novel “Dune” for Paramount Pictures.
