Industry News :: Malibu may restrict TV and movie filming

Officials in Malibu, Calif., will consider restricting television and movies filming in the historically film-friendly oceanfront city.
Some members of the City Council say residents are fed up with vehicles on their streets, aircraft flying overhead and noise at all hours of the day and night.
Malibu officials say they issue about 700 film permits a year. Producers say they've contributed to growth in Malibu and shouldn't be shut out now -- and many people are living in the exclusive area because they've made fortunes in the entertainment business.
Along with music videos and movies, Malibu's beach houses have been the location favorites for reality TV producers such as "Beach Party House" and "The Osbournes." TV shows such as "Baywatch," "M*A*S*H" and "The Rockford Files" have also shot there.
If approved, the new regulations would ban early-morning and late-night filming, prohibit the use of helicopters, and limit the number of days a site can be used for location filming.
